Vladimir Gusev exists in a living hell. A year ago in the Olympics the professional hockey player was forced to use a homophobic slur during a game, and guilt is eating him from the inside out. Not only is Vladimir not a homophobe, but in the aftermath of the Olympics, he was finally able to admit his true nature to himself. Yet he's been taught homosexuality is a sin, so he tries to push away his feelings, but to no avail.
Joe Bufford is an out gay man and an ex-Delta Force member who was medically discharged after an injury to his hand leaves him no longer able to perform his duties. His job as a mechanic at the airport is hardly a long-term career choice, but Joe has no idea where he can utilize the skills he learned in the Army.
Vladimir and Joe meet, and Joe instantly recognizes Vladimir as a terrified closet case. Before he knows it, Joe is offering to help Vladimir figure out what he is and what he wants. As time goes on, Joe begins to hope more and more that the answers to those questions lie with him.

I have been waiting for book 2 in the Safe Harbor series by Cassandra Carr ever since reading See the Light. So happy I finally got to read Hiding In Plain Sight and I loved every minute of it. Joey and Vlad had great chemistry right from the beginning and it only got stronger as they spent time together and bonded. It was nice to see the "real" Vlad and to find out the truth behind his horrible behavior at the Olympic event. The author did a good job depicting Vlad's struggle as he comes to terms with being gay in the world of sports. I liked how supportive and patient Joey was with Vlad in and out of the bedroom. Their sex scenes were sexy and hot and I couldn't get enough. I enjoyed their journey together. Another terrific story by one of my favorite authors.Product details

Hiding in Plain Sight Safe Harbor Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Cassandra Carr Jason P Hilton CSquared Publishing Books Reviews
I love this series. I hope the author continues them. Such a tough sport, with tough guys who have to hide who they are. It is understood that you just don't come out in professional hockey. The characters have an amazing journey and I was so glad to go on it with them.
Sigh... Vald and Joey have stolen a piece of my heart. I absolutely loved this book. From the very first page I was sucked in and didn't want to stop until the very end. Even then I was sad to see it end.
A few things I would have liked more of is Vald's first complete experience as the bottom and more information at the end of the story, it pretty much just stopped when it could have easily been the peek.
Now to go back and read the first in the series!
This book had everything I love in a good read. Great character's, a wonderful romance, and even more it addressed some current events that I really keep an eye on. There were no huge roller coasters, but the great pace with some nail biting made it totally worth my time. This book is staying on my re-read shelf. Off to find other books by this refreshing writer. Thanks.
After being forced to do something for the sake of winning a hockey game, Vladimir now has to deal with the fallout of his actions. He struggles with accepting who and what he is while worrying what the potential fall out could be. He meets Joe who turns his world upside down and helps him to come to terms with who he is. Being a gay hockey player in the NHL is something he's not sure people will openly accept. With the help of Joey and his supportive teammates, Vladimir soon learns that he's not alone. Terrific story of love and overcoming ignorance! Did I also mention the hot sex? Well there's lots of it!!
I enjoyed reading about Joey and Vlad in Hiding in Plain sight.
The author did a good job drawing the reader into the book and keeping them interested. the story line was belief which helped.
I liked both characters too. Joey was our hard, edgy military hero who knew what and who he wanted. And lucky for Vlad it was him. The two were pretty explosive together. I'm glad they were compatible.
This is my first reading by the author but won't be my last.
While this is a standalone, I wish I'd read Book 1 first as references to events and characters in it kept popping up in this book. On its own, though, it read well, especially for someone who is a fan of both hockey and gay erotica -)
This is the story of Vlad, a Russian hockey player, and Joe (Joey) who is ex-Delta forces. Vlad is scared to come out because it's tough in the sporting world and because of the Russiaian administration being completely terrible and homophobic currently. He's also scared to admit it to himself. But when Joe sees him in a gay bar and wonders what he's doing there, then follows him out, it begins a hot and intense relationship between the two. Mixed in-between the hot sex scenes was a lot of feeling each other out. Is this a relationship? What about Joe's previous bunk buddy coming back from the war? What about Vlad's crazy away game schedule? Joe helps him learn the ins & outs of gay sex. Vlad's very lucky to have such a good teacher. Except... that both men suddenly find themselves really falling for each other... and Russia wants Vlad back for the World Championship. Drama!
This was a fun, hot read. I liked the modern/current references as well, including the recent gay-friendly "You Can Play" campaign. The pacing was a little too fast at times. Problems came up and were quickly solved. Still, the two were good together, and it was a good story. I look forward to reading the first in this series and any future ones as well.
3.5 stars
This story was good, but then....meh....and then good again. I loved Vlad and Joe, the basics of their relationship and the usual closeted issues. I just don't like misunderstandings for the sake of drama and I felt that was Brendon's sole purpose in this story. He was an unnecessary character. Vlad's reaction to learning of this character's role in Joe's life was forced, completely out of character and created an artificial gulf between them that distracted from their journey to finding real love. *shrugs*, *sigh* I appreciate the story for what it is, however. Overall, the writing was good and sex scenes were pretty smokin' hot.
